A BRIEF HISTORY

In 1912, Philippe Decént founded the shop originally named Decént Cycles, known to be the first bicycle shop in the Montclair area.

Decént Cycles supplied area cyclists with high quality and custom-made bicycles. In the early years, Philippe Desent, an avid cycling enthusiast and master frame builder, was also associated with the Montclair Wheelmen Cycling Club. The Wheelmen were a group of gentlemen cyclists, who would hold local rides and races in the Montclair area.

According to Ms. Monaco, Philippe Desent Bicycles was sold to a Mr. Diamond in 1927. The shop later changed hands in the early 1955 to Mr. Diamond's son-in-law, Mr. Katz who continued the tradition until sometime in the late 1960's, when sold to a Mr. Terzo. In 1989, Diamond Cycle changed to its current owner, Craig Cornell.
